Yesterday Sony announced the next installment of their Playstation console , The PS4. It’s no secret my gaming console preference leans towards the Sony brand, so obviously I was over the moon at what was revealed today. From the three previous models to both of their handhelds, most of my gaming has been on a Sony console. I didn’t need the media event to decide I was getting this, I would have blindly ordered the PS4 without any specs or launch game announcements. I’ll be the first to acknowledge that my loyalty borders on mania but I haven’t been disappointed yet.
Through thick and thin I’ve stuck with Sony and a lot has to do with their exclusive franchises that I find captivating more so than Microsoft and Nintendo’s. I know that with a new generation of Playstation will come my old familiar favorites like Uncharted and God Of War along with some new IP’s that will no doubt capture my gamers heart. I was hoping for Naughty Dog’s presence to be seen today but I”m sure they are already at work on something for the PS4 and probably don’t want to steal any thunder from The Last Of Us.
After Bungie’s Destiny was revealed this past Sunday with little more than concept art, I kind of figured they would be at the Sony event today. What I didn’t expect was that Destiny would come with exclusive content for the PS4 considering Bungie’s past alliance with Microsoft. Of course, we haven’t heard from Microsoft yet so maybe what is now being touted as PS4 exclusivity will in fact be next generation exclusive content. Either way I’m curious to see what Bungie will do now they are multi-platform.
Now that the Resistance series has wrapped up and Insomniac games are no longer exclusive to Sony, it didn’t surprise me that Sony would bank on KillZone to be the premiere shooter of PS4. Rightfully so as well, Guerrilla Games has done amazing work on the series, that in my opinion is one of the best shooter franchises on the market at the moment. KillZone : Shadow Fall just became my personal must have launch title. Check out the trailer for KillZone: Shadows Fall here.
It’s interesting the console itself didn’t make an appearance but we were shown the controller. Very curious indeed, I wonder if we wouldn’t have even been shown the redesigned Dualshock 4 had images of it not leaked earlier in the week. We also didn’t learn a release date other than November of 2013. Pricing was also kept under wraps but persistent internet rumors are putting the PS4 at $429 and $529.
The day was a big day for gamers who are anxious to get the next console generation started. Here at Don’t Hate The Geek we will keep you updated on all things PS4 related. In fact, I feel I should probably apologize in advance for the amount of times I will be talking about the PS4.
Nintendo has announced a rough release date for the Nintendo Wii U, reigning in the launch to this side of 2013. But can a holiday launch tip the balance in Ninty’s accountants’ favour?
The Nintendo Wii U has been floating around looking for something resembling a release date ever since it debuted last year at the E3 gaming expo. Now, thanks to Nintendo Japan CEO Satoru Iwata, it has one.
At an earnings conference in Osaka, Japan, Iwata revealed that the Wii U will ship in time for the holidays this year in all major territories, including the UK. The launch is primed to soak up the majority of this year’s Christmas console sales and to help Nintendo return to profitability, after a year that’s seen them dip into the red for the first time ever.
If the Wii U can sell in equally monstrous numbers as the original Nintendo Wii, then the gaming behemoth should be fine… Even if efforts from Sony and Microsoft are just around the corner.
In Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate you are cast in the role of hunter and will explore an area within the Monster Hunter universe. Completing quests and stalking and assassinating monsters will help you gain skills, as well as earn you equipment upgrades. If you played the previous installment in the series, Monster Hunter Tri, there have been over 38 new monsters, extra stages and hundreds of additional quests added to Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, making it the most expansive entry into the series yet.
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate was developed and published by Capcom and is available now in retail or digital form for Nintendo’s Wii U or 3DS.
If you played video games in the 90′s, you knew there were two mascots fighting for your gaming dollars: Nintendo’s Mario and Sega’s Sonic the Hedgehog. Both starred in awesome games, both had cameos in comics and both, both were damn endearing. Once Sega bowed out of the console market that left Sonic a free agent. Since then, we’ve seen him on the Xbox 360, PS3 and even a Nintendo console or two. That was shocking but the latest from Sega is even more shocking.
Sega and Nintendo have struck a deal to make Nintendo the official home of Sonic! That’s right geeks, long time rivals Mario and Sonic will now permanently live under the same console roof. Sega will still make the games but they will only be on anything Big N, at least for the next three titles.
Back in my childhood gaming I would have never thought, I imagined it, that the foes would become BFFs. Now they can braid each other’s hair, make pies and chase after evil doers together forever. Chalk this one up to the strangest exclusive ever!
SEGA of America Inc. and SEGA Europe Ltd. today announced details of an exclusive partnership with Nintendo of America Inc. and Nintendo of Europe GmbH for the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. The new agreement will make Nintendo consoles the number one destination for Sonic gaming over the next three titles. The first two titles of the deal were announced today via Nintendo Direct, and details of the third Sonic title will be revealed at a later date.
“Sonic the Hedgehog has performed incredibly well on Nintendo platforms and this exclusive partnership is a natural fit for the next evolution of Sonic games” commented Jurgen Post COO SEGA Europe Ltd. “The Wii U and Nintendo 3DS are ideal platforms to showcase Sonic and we are looking forward to working with Nintendo on these three exciting adventures.”
Sonic the Hedgehog first appeared as a videogame character in June 1991 and instantly became an icon for a generation of gamers. Defined by his super-fast speed and cool attitude, in the years since he first raced on to videogame consoles Sonic has become a true global phenomenon with over 75 million videogames and smartphone apps sold worldwide. SEGA’s iconic blue blur has also gone on to enjoy incredible success in many licensed areas, such as toys, apparel, comics and animation.
Maybe its because I have always been so good at the game that nobody can even come close to beating me (I welcome all challengers!), but the classic GoldenEye for the Nintendo 64 is still one of my all time favorite games. There is just something enjoyable about shooting a guy in the butt and having him jump while grabbing the wound.
Anyway, for those that are also huge fans of the FPS classic GoldenEye, I thought you might want to join me in buying this awesome GoldenEye inspired Most Deadly shirt from BustedTees for just $20. This shirt features the health meter from the GoldenEye watch with the recognition of “most deadly” in the center (the perfect description for my 007 skills).
If are looking to brag about your skills on a game from 1997 (like I do), this is the perfect way to do it!
